L’oro è un metallo prezioso, riconosciuto come valuta internazionale. E’ usato in vari settori, dalla gioielleria, all’industria tessile, passando per quella elettronica, medica o ottica. L’oro è indicato sui mercati come XAU. La X sta per un’entità internazionale il cui valore è garantito da uno stato o una banca centrale, mentre AU è l’elemento chimico dell’oro, e viene dalla parola latina Aurum.
Prezzo dell’oro
Per familiarizzare con investimenti in oro, può essere utile guardare allo sviluppo del prezzo dell’oro nella storia. Questo metallo si misura in once, approssimativamente 31,10 grammi. Nel mercato Forex, il prezzo dell’oro si calcola come prezzo per oncia in USD (dollari statunitensi).
Dal XVII secolo il prezzo dell’oro è stabilito dal libero mercato. Il prezzo dell’oro è si fissa ogni giorno alle 15, ora inglese, nel momento in cui negli Stati Uniti aprono le borse. Il prezzo dell’oro è influenzato dai partecipanti al mercato, dalle banche centrali e dalle compagnie minerarie, che posseggono grandi riserve d’oro. Se le banche iniziano a vendere oro, o se le compagnie che lo estraggono aumentano la produzione, il prezzo scende. Se le banche iniziano a comprare oro, o se le compagnie che lo estraggono diminuiscono la produzione, il prezzo sale. Ad ogni modo, le banche possono influenzare il prezzo dell’oro solo relativamente, dal momento che posseggono solo il 20% delle scorte auree su scala mondiale.
Il Sistema Aureo
Sempre nel XVII secolo vigeva un sistema depositario aureo. Le banconote potevano essere scambiate per oro. Per questo sistema, la Bank of England aveva sviluppato (grazie al suo dominio su trading e finanza) il Sistema Aureo. In questo nuovo sistema non era fornita la copertura al 100% dell’oro, cosi le banche potevano concedere più moneta di quanta in effetti possedevano sotto forma di riserve auree. Il Sistema Aureo fu il modello inglese per un sistema mondiale. Ogni valuta scambiabile corrispondeva ad una certa quantità di oro. Attraverso questa politica interventista il prezzo dell’oro rimase fisso per secoli a 3,17 pound,e i tassi di scambio delle valute rimasero inalterati per molto tempo. Il Sistema Aureo riuscì a mantenere una stabilità internazionale a livello dei prezzi fino al XIX secolo. Con la prima guerra mondiale, il legame tra oro e valute fu temporaneamente accantonato. Rinforzata dalla crisi economica mondiale del 1931, la piena convertibilità si interruppe. Questo permise ai trader negli Stati Uniti di scambiare un’oncia d’oro per 5 dollari nel 1933. Nei frattempo, l’Inghilterra aveva perso il suo ruolo predominante nell’industria e nel commercio. Con la seconda guerra mondiale, il sistema finanziario inglese venne meno, rendendo il dollaro statunitense la nuova valuta di riserva mondiale.
Sistema di Bretton Woods
Con la conferenza di Bretton Woods del 1944, gli Stati Uniti si impegnarono a pagare 35 dollari per ogni oncia d’oro. Cosi, il prezzo dell’oro continuò a salire fino a sette volte tanto in soli 11 anni. Quando Nixon nel 1971 sciolse l’accordo di scambio 35 dollari per oncia, il prezzo dell’oro fino a 850 dollari nei tre anni che precedettero il 1980. In 9 anni il prezzo dell’oro era cresciuto di 24 volte. Inoltre, se paragonata al 1971 la copertura dell’oro era crollata a 1:2, e solo metà dei dollari erano effettivamente coperti dalle riserve auree statunitensi.
Aumento del prezzo dell’oro
Nel 2000, quello dell’oro era un mercato al rialzo. Fino al 2005, il prezzo salì fino a 14 volte, portandosi a 500$ per oncia. Una delle ragioni era il declino del dollaro, ma non va sottovalutata l’importanza che ebbe l’aumento del valore percepito dell’oro, dato da previsioni politiche, economiche e sociali incerte.
All’inizio del 2012 il prezzo USD/XAU era circa 1750.00 dopo che l’estate 2011 aveva registrato un rimbalzo a 1921.15. Nel 2012 ci si aspetta un ulteriore aumento che porterà l’oro a superare i 2000 USD, poiché in un momento di crisi economica i paesi in via di sviluppo aumenteranno le loro posizioni in oro. In più, l’oro ha ancora molto potenziale, essendo una risorsa dalle scorte limitate la cui richiesta sul mercato è in crescita.
Trading sull’oro con un Broker Forex
Intanto, molti broker Forex offrono, oltre al trading di valute, anche contratti per differenza (CFD) e trading su metalli preziosi come oro o argento, o petrolio.
